Data collection on adverse events and surveillance are needed to foster patient safety & tackle 8.8 million cases of HAIs in the EU, along with the threat posed by AMR. 10 years after the adoption of the 2009 European Council Recommendations on patient safety, this session will focus on the current situation of patient safety in Europe and how national and European policymakers can shape effective strategies to tackle the issue. Our session will explore:
- The potential of surveillance networks and monitoring mechanisms
- Future-facing solutions to encourage a ‘safety culture’ and a blame-free approach to patient safety reporting
- The role the EU can play in supporting its Member States to share relevant data on patient safety & measurable indicators.
